How we work together
Everyone works differently.
So bookkeeping support shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all.
This is what working together actually looks like – in real life – and what happens if you decide to go ahead.
What happens next
Getting started is straightforward
Getting started is simple, and there’s no pressure – this is just what it looks like if you decide to go ahead.
1. We chat
We’ll have a call, or message if that’s easier, to talk through your business and how things are currently set up.
You can ask any questions and make sure everything feels like the right fit for you.
2. Getting everything set up
If you decide to go ahead, I’ll get everything set up for you:
– You’ll sign a short agreement digitally
– You’ll get access to your secure client portal
– You’ll upload ID (this is a legal requirement)
The portal is just where we keep everything organised and share documents safely.
3. Monthly payment setup
Ongoing packages are paid by monthly direct debit, so everything is simple and there's nothing to keep track of.
4. Software access and setup
You’ll give me access to your bookkeeping software, or I’ll help you get set up if you’re not using one yet.
If you’re switching systems, I’ll guide you through that too.
5. Moving from another accountant (if needed)
If you’re moving from another accountant or bookkeeper, I’ll handle the handover for you.
You won’t need to chase anything or deal with any awkward emails.
6. We get started
I’ll review where things currently stand, tidy up anything obvious, and we’ll agree how we’ll work together going forward, including what you need to send and when.
You don’t need to have everything organised before getting starte – that’s part of what I help with.
What support can look like
Here’s what support can look like in practice, depending on how hands-on you want to be.
Your Books: Checked
You do the bookkeeping. I review, guide and handle your tax return.
Meet Lara.
Lara is self-employed and confident with the day-to-day running of her business.
She keeps on top of her bookkeeping most of the time, but wants reassurance that she’s doing things correctly.
She records income and expenses regularly.
Receipts are uploaded to her software as she goes.
If she's unsure about anything, she pings me a quick message on WhatsApp.
Each quarter, I review Lara’s books:
- I check everything has been recorded correctly
- I fix small errors
- I flag anything that needs her attention
- I send her a quarterly profit report and tax estimate, so she knows where she stands and can plan ahead.
At the end of the tax year, I prepare and submit her self-assessment. When she needs to comply with Making Tax Digital, I'll take care of these submissions too.
She knows someone’s keeping an eye on things, so she doesn’t have to second guess herself.
Lara stays fully in control of her bookkeeping, with the reassurance that nothing important is being missed.
Bookkeeping & Tax: Covered
I handle the bookkeeping. You stay informed and concentrate on running the business.
Meet Sophie.
Sophie runs a busy small business.
She already has enough to think about day to day.
She doesn’t want bookkeeping on her to-do list at all.
She uploads receipts and invoices via an app as and when she receives them.
If something unusual crops up, she flags it.
Then she gets on with running her business, without needing to think about keeping on top of the numbers.
I handle the day-to-day bookkeeping, keep everything up to date, and make sure all tax and MTD obligations are met.
Sophie receives regular profit updates and tax estimates, explained clearly and in plain language.
She knows where she stands without having to think about bookkeeping.
Support feels calm, hands-off, and taken care of.
A quick but important note...
There’s no fixed way this has to work.
Some clients want reminders.
Some want quiet accountability.
Some want space until they ask for help.
Support is agreed with you – not imposed on you – and it can change as your business and capacity change.
